Lindenmere’s
All Choice Program
It’s all about choice. Your choice! TOTAL CHOICE! Lindenmere’s program is on the cutting edge of summer camping. Campers work with their counselors and specialty staff to select the activities they want and love. With Lindenmere’s focus on choice, campers have an opportunity to explore in-depth the activities they feel they will enjoy and participate alongside campers with similar interests. This makes each and every day challenging, unique and fun.
Where to First?
How it Works
Lindenmere campers choose all of the activities that they want to participate in. They choose both majors and minors to construct their perfect day. With over fifty activities to choose from and a team of dedicated specialty staff, we ensure the success and growth of all of our campers.
In a traditional camping setting, campers often participate in activities with just the kids in their bunk. By choosing activities based on interests, campers quickly meet so many other campers that they have something in common with. This helps develop higher numbers of friendships and creates an atmosphere of everyone knowing everyone.
Staff are equally as happy with the choice program. They know that each camper has chosen to be in their activity area. Therefore they are able to achieve goals much quicker with motivated campers looking on!
Majors
Each child chooses three majors before the beginning of each session and goes to them on a daily basis. Majors are instructional and goal oriented. We have found that some campers will get to camp and try a new activity as a minor and fall in love with it. If this happens, they are more than welcome to change a major with the Program Director at lunch.
Minors
Campers choose 3 minors daily at breakfast. A minor sheet is passed around by their counselors for campers to fill out. Campers are going to take these minors that afternoon. This gives them the utmost control in creating what they want to do. Minors are either instructional or recreational, and they give campers a chance to venture into new activity areas. Department heads develop minors to be focused on specific areas of that activity in order to enhance and nurture specific skills.
Youngest Campers
Unlike the rest of our counselors, general counselors are hired to help guide our youngest campers throughout each day. They are chosen based upon their nurturing nature and patience. Throughout the day they will be checking in to make sure that their campers are having the time of their lives.
Leadership Training
Campers entering 11th and 12th grade are eligible to participate in our LT program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to handle camp counselor responsibilities in the future. There are many aspects to the program including a LT trip, optional SAT tutoring, 1 or 2 times a week on the job counselor training in their favorite activity area, a big brother/sister program and much more. LTs will still live in a bunk with their other LTs during the summer.
